FAQ

Qu: Do I need any previous experience in creative writing, or any specific qualifications to take the course?

A: No. The course is designed to be easy to follow and will enable students to develop at their own rate and at their own level of ability. No previous experience is required as the course is aimed at those with a strong interest and passion to write their first novel. The course is suitable for beginners who have never written a novel before, but also students with limited previous experience will also benefit from learning about the novel writing and publishing process.

Qu: Where does the course take place?

A: The course is delivered entirely by means of an e-learning platform. This means that all modules and assessments are carried out on-line at a time and place that suits you. There are no physical classes to attend.

Qu: What computer skills do I need?

A: Since the course is delivered on-line you will require basic computer skills. The website is simple to navigate and once registered, the course material and your progress is easy to follow. It is advised you write your novel on a computer/tablet, whilst following the course, so you will need basic word processing skills.

Qu: I live outside the UK. Can I still take the course?

A: Of course! Students are welcome from all over the world. Many of our students are ex-pats, and others are English speaking citizens from other countries. As long as you have a good command of the English language, and access to a computer, you can take this course from anywhere in the world.

Qu: Who created the course?

A: The course was written by a published author and former international publisher. It was developed from so many requests for support on how to turn a simple story idea into a publishable story. The result of all those questions asked and subsequent answers are presented in this course.

Qu: Can I just take the course and write my novel later?

A: Erm…why would you want to do that? Well, to be honest, if that’s what you choose to do there is nothing stopping  you, however, you may find that your progress is hampered as you are not allowing time to assimilate the information and practice what you have learnt in your own writing. We recommend that you work on your novel at the same time that you are taking the course, this will ensure that you are addressing all the necessary aspects of what makes a good novel.

Qu: I have already written my novel but have not yet submitted it to a publisher. Will I benefit from taking the course?

A: Some of our students have already written their book, but still learn a lot about editing and generally improving the content of their novel before submitting it to a publisher. It will give you a much greater change of getting your novel accepted for publishing.

They are great networking opportunities and events where good friendships can be formed. There are no limits to the number of ceremonies you attend; the more the merrier and the more you are likely to learn from others.

Qu. When and where are Award Ceremonies held?

A: Award Ceremonies are held at different venues in the UK and at different times of the year, giving everyone a chance to attend. You will need to check the next available dates and locations on the website page for the latest information and booking details.

Qu. Why do the fees vary from one Award Ceremony to another?

A: This simply happens as a result of the different charges the venue makes for the event. Overheads need to be met, so ticket costs vary in accordance with what we are charged.

Qu: Can I just take the course and not do the assessment tests?

A: No. The course is designed so that at the end of each of the ten modules you must take a test to assess your level of competency. You will need to attain a pass grade of at least 70% in each module before you will be permitted to progress onto and access the next module. If you fail a test you will be able to re-take it (as many times as is necessary) until you have gained a sufficient level of competency.

Qu: How long will it take to get my assessment results back?

A: Your results will be available instantly.

Qu: How is my final grade worked out?

A: Your results over the ten module assessments will be automatically averaged out and your final grade will appear at the end of your test. Your certificate which will be available to download and print will also be made immediately available upon successful completion of the course. The certificate you receive at an Award Ceremony will be superior to the one available on-line. It will categorise your grade as a PASS (70-79%), MERIT (80-89%) or DISTINCTION (90-100%).
